Typhoon Ketsana - The Philippines Terror

After terrorizing Philippines, its has made landfall at Vietnam. When will it stop? Unknown. But what we do know is that while Philippines is trying it best, struggling to cope with the worst flooding in more than 40 years, 2 new typhoons were brewing in the Pacific and threatened to complicate relief efforts. The 2 cyclones could reach the east of the archipelago in the next 2 or 3 days and its intensity could increase during that time.

May god have mercy on this piece of already troubled land. Relief agencies in Singapore are collecting donations to help the victims of Typhoon Ketsana which battered the Philippines. Singapore Red Cross (SRC) has launched a public appeal to raise money for the storm victims from 29 September to 30 October, while Mercy Relief will be collecting donations from 29 September to 18 October to further help the victims.

Mercy Relief is making preparations to send a preliminary team to the Philippines together with the first batch of relief items later this week worth S$160,000. These include medicines, blankets and water purification tablets. What is important now is to address the most immediate and basic needs of the victims which is to keep them fed, hydrated and warm said Chief Executive of Mercy Relief.

The Singapore Red Cross will also be contributing US$10,000 to the Philippines National Red Cross(PNRC) for its immediate relief efforts. Singapore Government has contributed US$20,000 towards the SRC's Philippines Tropical Storm appeal. The SRC is accepting cash and cheque donations from members of the public. They can donate in person at the Red Cross House at 15 Penang Lane or by sending a cheque.
