"Fung Wong" visited the Philippines one month after typhoon "Feng Shen" rampaged through the country killing hundreds of people and causing the capsizing of a passenger ship with more than 800 on board, in which only 57 people are known to have survived. "Fung Wong" continue to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring rains over Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao particularly over the Western sections.Typhoon "Fung Wong" intensifies and moves toward Taiwan. It's the eighth tropical storm of this year, turned into a strong typhoon at 8:00 pm on Sunday. The powerful typhoon make landfall on the east central coast just before daybreak, packing winds of 105 miles per hour. It is expected to drop up to 36 inches of rain on the central portion of the island and perhaps half of that much on its southern and northern extremities, including the capital of Taipei. This force the closing of schools and businesses. Domestic and international air traffic was also grounded.
The intensifying Typhoon Fung Wong was forecasted to land in Fujian on Monday evening or Tuesday morning. The Fujian provincial flood control headquarters has demanded all vessels to return to harbor on Sunday. Disaster relief personnel have been sent to help women and children on fishing vessels get onshore.
