Singapore's three telcos will lend the police a hand in the search for Jemaah Islamiah leader Mas Selamat Bin Kastari.
Operations Department (Community Involvement) Assistant Director Evon Ng said: 'The three telos have stepped forward to help the Police by sending photos of the fugitive to all the mobile phone subscribers in Singapore. We are encouraged by their strong support.'
The telcos will broadcast a lookout message to their 3.9 million subscribers, the police said in a press release on Saturday.
'Subscribers of M1, Starhub and Singtel will receive the photograph of Mas Selamat via MMS free of charge,' the police said.
A single message will also be sent to subscribers of the two Telcos from 12 noon on Saturday. Due to the large number of handphone users in Singapore, the whole process of reaching all the subscribers is expected to take several hours.
SingTel will also be sending an e-mail with the JI leader's photograph and physical details to all their Singnet users.
Are the telo really out to help? Sending MMS is free, but receiving will incur GPRS charges right? Are they going to waive it? Remember to check you MMS billing on your next Mobile bills.
