A Man was shot dead by a police officer at the North-East Line platform in Outram Park MRT station at about 3.35 pm on today.

An eyewitness, who saw the shooting incident, said that he was waiting at the platform for a Punggol-bound train, when he heard a policeman running after the man and shouting at him. Police spokesman Danny Tan later told reporters at the scene that the man, aged 43, had tried to attack the cop with a dagger. The weapon was found near the man's slumped body, now covered with a white plastic sheet.

The spokesman said the man had earlier stabbed a middle-aged man at Jalan Kukoh, not far away from the Outram Park MRT station, over a dispute.

The dead man's nationality is not known.

Train services at the station were not disrupted but passengers had to alight further away from the cordoned area.
