Maid faces murder charges

A 23 Year old Indonesian maid was charged with the murder of her elderly employer. The maid was arrested at the Tiong Bahru Food Centre on Monday night, 37 hours after Madam Choy Ah Moy, 71, was found dead in her family flat at Block 23, Jalan Membina.

At about 9.10am on Sunday, the police were alerted by family members who found Mdm Choy lying face-up and motionless on her bed. Five minutes later, paramedics pronounced Mdm Choy dead.

The maid, who, according to family members, had just started work 10 days ago, had gone missing until her arrest.

According to neighbours, Mdm Choy had been in poor health and could not walk without assistance recently and the maid was hired specially to take care of her.

At the wake, responding to suggestions by a Chinese evening daily that the maid had poisoned Mdm Choy, distraught family members said that there was no basis for the speculation and declined to comment further.
