My house is shaking... Help!!
Tremors were felt in many parts of Singapore at about 12 noon & 1.50pm today.
According to Singapore’s Meteorological Services Division, NEA, an earthquake was detected at 11:49am, in Padang, Central Sumatra, approximately 430km from Singapore. The magnitude of the earthquake is 6.6 on the Richter scale.
More tremors were felt for about 10 seconds at about 1.52pm, 2 hours after the last incident. This time, another earthquake was detected at 1:49pm in Southern Sumatra, approximately 420km from Singapore. The magnitude of the earthquake is also 6.6 on the Richter Scale.
Although the epicentre of the quake was some distance from Singapore, the tremors were sufficiently strong to send some office workers in many offices running out of their workplace. Even the northen area like Shunfu & Ang Mo Kio.
Some buildings, like the Concourse at Beach Road, Capital Square and Centennial Tower in the city, and even Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Clementi, were evacuated. Witnesses said several tall buildings in the central business district swayed slightly.
