Radio Frequency tags to replace HDB season parking tickets

Saw the news that HDB will be replacing the current season parking tickets with the new RFID Tag. So it's out with the papers, therefore, will the cost of the new RF season parking be cheaper also? Or it will go up due to operational & implamemention cost?

HDB residents with season parking tickets will have them replaced with radio frequency identification tags within a year. The car parks among the first to be under the tag scheme are in Ang Mo Kio, Balestier, Pasir Ris and Sembawang.

The tag is displayed on the same place as the paper discs on the vehicle's windscreen. It stores the vehicle's identifying number, and parking enforcement officers can scan for the number using handheld scanners. The number is associated with information about the vehicle, such as its licence plate number and season parking ticket validity.

With the more convenient tags, some 400,000 motorists will no longer have to regularly replace outdated season parking discs at the HDB's 1,700 residential car parks.

As part of HDB's island-wide roll-out, SPT holders of the car parks listed below can expect to receive RFID tags in the mail. Those who do not receive their notification and tags via post by 15 March 2007 or who need further clarification can contact HDB branch Office Service Line at 1800-2255432 between 8am and 5pm on weekdays. New season ticket applicants will get the tags when they apply for a season ticket.
