What it takes for you to be life giving towards your partner, your family and your friends or someone stranger to you? In this little uninterrupted corner of Ponggol, is where I've found the answer.
Engaged Encounter is an international marriage preparation course where by couple are made compulsory to stay-in for a weekend, to talk honestly about future lives after the wedding day. It is not a counseling course, neither are there formal lectures, nor is it based on group discussions. The weekend is designed for private discussions within the couple themselves, but the presentations are given to the group as a whole.
A team of two married couples and a priest will give a series of talks about marriage and family life experiences, highlighting the essentials for enjoying a life-long marriage. After you have heard from the team, you will have time to think about the subject and then you will discuss your thoughts with your partner. There are no formal lectures, rather, it is an experience where you, as a couple, are involved in a period of self-discovery and mutual affirmation.
The weekend provides the atmosphere and the opportunity to seriously discuss our strengths and weaknesses, our goals, desires and ambitions. We also learn about each other's attitudes towards money, sex, children and family as well as our roles in society.
Sound good? So what have I Learnt? Well.. Love is not only a feeling, but rather a decision. A wedding is a day, but a marriage is a lifetime.
