First of all, a disappointing piece of news is that the festivities at Singapore River and Chinese Gardens like they do in previous years will not be held in 2009. Not sure why, but most likely it has something to do with the current economic uncertainty.
But the annual event @ Chinatown is still on. Mark out these 2 dates during the Singapore Lantern Festival 2009, the Opening Night on 19 Sep & the 15th day of the 8th Lunar Month which falls on 3 Oct.
Guess I'm posting abit too late.. The Opening highlight like Fireworks, Lion and Dragon Dance, and Lantern Street Parade was over already. But you may still enjoy the Street Light Up nightly from 7pm to 12am & to 2am on weekends. Street Bazaar will be operating till late from 11am to 11pm & 1am on weekends. So do drop by if you don't feel like sleeping early.
There will also be Stage Shows at Kreta Ayer Square near Buddha Tooth Relic Temple nightly from 8pm to 10.30pm. To mark the Moon at its largest and roundest, there will be a Mass Lantern Procession at Chinatown from 7.30pm to 10pm on 3 Oct. It will starts at the open field near Outram MRT and ends at Central Mall with a stage performance and pyrotechnics. Along side, there will also be stilt walkers, lion and dragon dances.
So remember to bring your camera along just in case the shutter bug bites you. Anyone wanna go snap snap together?
