The inaugural Singapore Kite Festival in August will include colourful exhibitions, hands-on workshops and culminate in a mass kite flying extravaganza at West Coast Park featuring kite stunts, arts performances and activities.
Kite flying was once a popular sport amongst Malay, Chinese and Indian communities in the fifties. I can still remember myself flying kite at the big wide field just behind my block before Anderson Secondary was built. Than I've moved on to Marina Bay to fly my kite & enjoy the hot hot curry there, but its now more like a dead town now. Since than, there's not much places delegated for kite flyer. The Singapore Kite Festival is all about reviving this tradition and establishing a fantastic multi-cultural community event.
Kite Flying Days will be held at the Grand Lawn, West Coast Park from 4-7pm on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August. If you like flying kites or photography, you might want to mark this date down on your calender. Oh, the admission is free too.
