Light Up @ Kek Lok Si Temple, Penang

The photograph was taken at the three best locations to capture the magnificent Kek Lok Si Temple in Penang during the light up. Isn't it gorgeous & majestic?

The Kek Lok Si Temple (极乐寺) aka "Temple of Supreme Bliss" is a Buddhist temple situated in Air Itam in Penang and is one of the best known temples on the island. Also, it is the largest Buddhist temple in Southeast Asia.

Mahayana Buddhism and traditional Chinese rituals blend into a harmonious whole, both in the temple architecture and artwork as well as in the daily activities of worshippers.

The temple is a focal point of festivals of the Chinese community in Penang. The Chinese New Year celebrations are particularly impressive. For 30 days following Chinese New Year, the temple remains open until late at night whilst thousands of lights turn the scenery into a sea of light.

The 119 years old temple will be light up till 22nd Feb 2009. If you are traveling up north, you still have about 11 days to catch it. If not, you will have to wait till 2010.
