Leader of a Singapore opposition party, jailed numerous times for defying local protest laws and for other offences, has posted a video message seeking US President Barack Obama's support.
Dr Chee Soon Juan, secretary general of the Singapore Democratic Party, posted his message to President Obama on the video sharing website YouTube, where he called Obama's Tuesday inauguration an occasion of great moment.
Dr Chee expressed hope that the United States will pay more attention to the human rights abuses of the Singapore government and take positive steps to help Singapore join the community of democracies.
From what I see, our dear Mr Barack Obama will be focusing more on the serious issue back home & the country they are at war with, rather than Dr Chee's call for help.
Nothing is new under the sun. There are many schools of thoughts in the political arena, Dr Chee's stand is clearly similiar to that of Confucianism (儒家) and Mohism (墨家) of ancient China which emphasizes on the importance of human rights and the idealistic view that men are born good. It is an attractive philosophy that is very appealing to the masses as it places the people (民) above the ruler (君) but its outcome is ultimately destruction and chaos.
Singapore is currently governed with principles similiar to that of Legalism (法家) with strong emphasis on economy and power, which is not to be confused with third world dictatorships such as North Korea and Myanmar, which Dr Chee cleverly weaves to deceive the masses.
Despite the weaknesses of Legalism, it is the only way to bring our country forward to a better future for all.
