Singapore Flyer suddenly stopped turning in the afternoon around 5pm on 23 Dec with more than 170 people trapped inside. From the TV news at around 10pm, only a few of them have been rescued using rescue harnesses. Pity for those that was trapped in it for so many hours & the couple that's planned their ROM on the Flyer. I suppose the aircon was cut off as well. Imagine in an enclose place for such a long period of time.
The operator of the Singapore Flyer said on Wednesday that they are suspending operations to carry out extensive investigations on the actual cause of the disruption on Tuesday night. Which mean my pre-booked flight on the Flyer for Christmas Eve had to be canceled tho.
Technical crews investigated & found that it was a small fire in the control room that had tripped the electrical system & halt the observation wheel from rotating for nearly seven hours. The halt had left 173 passengers stranded on top till power was restored and the wheel resumed turning after 11pm.
With Singapore Police as the public entertainment licensing authority, the Flyer would be allowed to resume operations only after the Flyer's structural and mechanical systems are certified safe by an internationally recognized body that assesses safety standards for amusement rides.
The Flyer remained shut on Friday & looks like its not going to be allow for operation till Jan 2009. Lets pray for those who booked the New Year Eve's flight for the Fireworks.
