The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has cautioned the public against purchasing poppy straws. This is because they have been found to contain opium, a Class A controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
The colourful poppy straws are available at selected shops and florists in Singapore. Shop owners have been advised against importing this product. They have also been requested to surrender all such stocks to the CNB immediately.
Members of public who have bought the poppy straws are advised to do likewise at the following address:
Police Cantonment Complex Block B
393 New Bridge Road
Singapore 088763
Those found to be in possession of such poppy straws may be liable to be prosecuted under the Misuse of Drugs Act for an offence of unlawful possession of a controlled drug. For enquiries on the handing over of the poppy straws, the public can call the CNB Hotline at 1800-325-6666.
