For a moment, I though CNG price will not be affected so soon, but it seems sooner than I've expected. Although its still cheaper than petrol, but its just a matter of time when CNG price are on par with petrol. Are you tempted to convert your car to CNG too? Well, guess we will have to give it a second thought now.
In recent months, there was constant news on rising petrol prices, the reason given being escalating oil prices all over the world. However the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) has also risen. Before May 1, the price of CNG at Mandai CNG station was $1.18 per kilo, after which it went up to $1.38. Less than two months later, Smart, which runs the Mandai station, has again raised its prices to $1.49. The CNG station ran by SPC at Jalan Buroh fared slightly better, with its prices rising to $1.38 only on June 15.
What could have cause the escalating CNG prices? Demand over supplied perhaps, since most of the new car now are CNG ready. For those who converted their car, the wait for their Return Of Investment will have to be longer now or even no return.
