Services interrupted due to updating?

Had you visit Streetdirectory.com lately?

According to the webpage, their services will be interrupted for the next few days as they are updating new maps and adding more awesome online services on Streetdirectory.com. Sure??

Streetdirectory.com was first published by Virtual Map back in 1999. It has closed the site following its failed appeal in the High Court last week against Singapore Land Authority’s (SLA) suit over copyright infringement.

According to the Straits Times, SLA, which originally issued Virtual Map a licence for its maps of Singapore, sued the company in January 2007 for continuing to use the SLA maps even after the licence had expired. Virtual Map lost it case in the District Court, and was ordered to stop using the infringing materials. It appealed to the High Court, but lost again.

It is understood that Virtual Map is aiming to bring the website back online over the weekend, with replacement maps based on its own surveys, but the company is now also considering quitting its business in Singapore and focusing Indonesia and Malaysia. Meanwhile, the public can also use other free online maps for non-commercial purposes. They are SLA Maps, Show Nearby & Sky Pigeon.

What gose around, come around... I believe they have drawn unwanted attention when they went around asking exorbitant compensation from some high-profile institutions for "infringing" their copyright. Now it's their turn to payback!
