NTUC really had enough supplies for 3 months? Maybe in their warehouse, but not in their store I guess. The NTUC @ Thomson Plaza was the first to be reported that their Rice section was having empty shelves! When was the last time we need to stockpile rice? This is a sign of losing faith on the ability of our 66% votes is having substantial existence in this issue. Hope we don't have to go to the extent of rationing.
When contacted NTUC, they said that they have increased the sales of rice by 30% in the last few days to cater to increased demand. They have stepped up on deliveries to the stores, with trucks delivering rice up to twice a day to the outlets. However, some shelves may be temporarily empty as the trucks run on a delivery schedule and replenishment takes time!
When I was at Shop & Save this morning, almost everyone in the queue is having a pack of rice in their hand. Are you not worried?
