Some Tiger Airways passengers were stranded at Perth International Airport last weekend, after their flight was cancelled. Reports said passengers were told a few hours after its scheduled departure that Flight TR 717 would not be leaving because the crew had exceeded working hours. Passengers said they were not given help with accommodation or alternative flights.
In an e-mail reply, a Tiger Airways spokesperson said there were delays due to strong storms in the area. The flight was also unable to take off due to a Singapore aviation ruling that the crew must have a minimum rest period. The airline said passengers were offered a refund on the affected flight, adding that it does not compromise on passenger safety and security.
This is the third time in over a month that Tiger Airways has had delays. On Christmas Eve, a flight to China had to turn back after take-off. And on 7 December 2007, passengers to Krabi experienced a delay and the plane also had to turn back after taking off.
