Your BLOOD is much needed

Spirits may be high this festive season but blood levels are near critical lows — with the Red Cross seeing a seasonal 10-per-cent drop in attendance at mobile donation stations and the Bloodbank@HSA.

To make things more worrying, there has also been an increase in emergency blood requests, but as of Thursday, A and O blood types are at near critical lows with only two days' supply left, although all other blood types are at comfortable levels.

Ideally, there should be at least six days' worth of blood at any time. In response to the blood shortage, the Red Cross has contacted its pool of donors and organisations to encourage them to donate.

Had you donated?
