Strong quake hits South Pacific island

A Strong 7.6 magnitude quake struck off the coast of Tonga on Sunday, but no tsunami warnings were issued and there were no early reports of damage.

The undersea quake was centred 346 kilometres north of uninhabited Raoul, one of the Kermadec Islands in the South Pacific, and it was 187 kilometres deep.

The quake, which hit at 7.28pm local time (3.28pm Singapore time), was also located 601 kilometres south-west of Nuku'Alofa, the capital of the pacific island of Tonga.
