SPCA offers $1,000 reward to find cat killer

SPCA said it was probably strangled with a shoe lace which was tied around its neck.

This stray cat, believed to be two years old, was found dead hanging from a pipe with a shoelace tied around its neck at an HDB block in Dakota Crescent on Thursday night.

SPCA said it probably died of strangulation from the hanging, as evident from the tightness of the shoelace around its neck.

Ms Deirdre Moss, Executive Officer of SPCA, said it received a call from the police at about 9.20pm on Thursday that a cleaner had found a dead cat hanging from a pipe at Block 18, Dakota Crescent.

'A passerby informed the cleaner. Bedok Police were informed anonymously by a resident,' said Ms Moss.

The SPCA went to the scene at about 9.40pm and brought the cat for a veterinary examination.

'It was evident from the tightness of the shoe lace around the cat's neck that it had probably died due to strangulation from the hanging,' said Ms Moss.

She said the female cat, aged about two, was in 'good body condition, tri-coloured and sterilised'.

The SPCA is urgently appealing for witnesses to what it calls a 'cruel and brutal act' and is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the culprit.

Call SPCA at 62875355 ext. 9 if you have any information.
