There is a need for the government to take swift steps in Jeju as it suffered from heavy damage. The move makes Jeju eligible to receive state funds and other financial assistance to help recover from flood damage.

The island was hit over the weekend the hardest by the typhoon, which killed 15 people, left one missing and injured another two. More than 4,310 people were also displaced, including nearly 1,600 on Jeju island. Some 4,850 houses were damaged or submerged by heavy rains, including about 3,260 on Jeju.
