"When you pee, don’t play a fool!" may not be the best way to greet your VIP, but that's what some 100 pre-schoolers did when Singapore's Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan dropped by their kindergarten at the launch of the "Happy Toilet School Education for Pre-schools (HTSEP)" programme.
The idea may stink to some, but considering the number of health risks on the rise, getting the young to learn good habits can't go to waste. Often than not, we hear people commenting that Singapore's public toilets are dirty, smelly and wet, especially in common places such as hawker centers.
However, whose responsibility is it? The cleaners, users or both? Users play an equally important role in keeping the toilets clean. Clean toilets are not merely the responsibility of cleaners. As a user, by practising simple toilet etiquette, the toilets can be a cleaner and more hygiene environment for everyone to use.
As such, Singaporeans need to be groom from young to be more gracious and considerate toilet users by educating the young about good toilet etiquette and inculcating the right social values.
