Power Outage at Singapore GDC yesterday

With the rare occurrence of power disruptions in Singapore, many were alarmed by the power outage at the Singapore Government Data Centre yesterday (16 July).

The power outage caused the most extensive shutdown ever of government sites and e-mail systems locally. IDA confirmed that the power failure occurred at 11.40am yesterday.

Initial investigations revealed that the outage was caused by a power failure that occurred at 1-Net’s premises that house the Government Data Centre. Power supply was restored by around 1pm, and the sites came back online at about 4pm. The e-mail systems of affected ministries and government agencies took longer, recovering just before 7pm.
