PCG Officers die after sea chase off Tuas

Singapore's Police Coast Guard suffered their first fatality in decades when two officers died on 13 April, Friday night after a high-speed chase in the sea off Tuas. This is the first time in recent history that Police Coast Guard (PCG) officers have died in the line of duty.

High-speed chases are common in their job of patrolling Singapore's waters to guard against intrusions and smuggling. But in their chase this time, one of the PCG boats collided with the speedboat and the impact caused both vessels to flip over and capsize.

The two officers, Station Inspector Mohd Khalid Muhamad, 41, and Staff Sergeant Heah Khim Han, 29 were trapped inside the steering compartment of the patrol boat. Their bodies were recovered at 8.15am yesterday after an overnight search and rescue operation by PCG, Navy Divers, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and Malaysia's Marine Police.

Both men were honoured with posthumous promotions: Station Insp Mohd Khalid to Senior Station Inspector and Staff Sgt Heah to Senior Staff Sergeant. they were given Ceremonial Police Funeral with full honours. Police Commissioner Khoo Boon Hui called the duo 'Heroes'.

Lets pray for the 2 Heroes, the dedicated officers who had sacrificed their lives for the sweetdreams we had.
