Big Walk taking a break

With the closure of the National Stadium for redevelopment, The New Paper (TNP) Big Walk has lost its home and will stop being an annual event.

The New Paper Big Walk’s predecessor, The New Nation Walk, completed its last
hurrah in 1984. After that, a permanent fixture on the calendar, the 10km long Big Walk began in 1991, it will now likely be held instead on an ad-hoc basis on very special occasions, for example, the opening of the Marina Barrage or the Integrated Resorts.

With just 7,000 walkers in the first instalment, the event eventually grew so big that it entered the Guinness World Records in 2000 as the world's largest walk with 77,500 participants.

After a memorable 16-year run, TNP is now calling on loyal walkers to pen their recollections and send in snapshots for a Walk down Memory Lane, which will eventually be published. Do you have any to submit?
